Today is a BEAUTIFUL day! Sunny, warm and perfect. We hung out around the house in the morning, catching some sunshine, reading, just relaxing a bit. Around 2:30 we packed an over night bag, and hit the road to Sevilla.
It's about a 3 hour drive...maybe just under. Beautiful countryside...lots of farmland, sheep, goats, cows...and wind farms. Some people think the giant white windmills ruin the scenery, but I love them. And let me tell you, to fill up the tank of the car with gas cost 51€, (and we had a quarter of a tank)so any way to save on energy here I am sure is appreciated! If only we would learn the lesson in the USA. You don't see any big gas guzzlers over here.
We had some "interesting" driving experiences when we got to Sevilla. We picked a great week to be here it seems. The Spring Fair was going on, and so many people were out, and dressed to the nines! We got in and settled in our beautiful hotel, thanks to a friend of Deb and Lisa's who works in the industry. He totally hooked us up. The rooms are amazing...even if the hotel was difficult to find. Some of the streets look like what we consider an ally at home!
Yes, this is a street in Sevilla
We pulled over at one point, and Lisa asked this young woman if she knew where the hotel was. (there are SO many hotels in this area, I am not sure how anyone can remember them all!) So, Lisa and this woman started having a conversation in Spanish, trying to get the info we needed to get to the hotel. I understood very little...maybe a word or two. Then she asked "Si eres americano?" And Lisa said Yes. Then, in perfect English she said, "Well, the best thing for you to do is..." We all busted out laughing. It was priceless.
So, we finally found it, got registered, settled in, and headed off to eat. We had a great dinner at a cafe right across the street, and then decided to see what all the hubbub was all about. We walked down across the main drag, crossed the river and made our way to the "fair." Holy cow! It was crazy! It was HUGE! We all felt underdressed, as most of the women were dressed in flamenco dresses, and the men in suit and tie. Even the smallest of children were dressed up!
Everyone was tired, and decided to head back to the hotel, except for me and Sarah. We wanted to really see what was happening, so we headed into the center of the fair! I have never seen anything like it. The streets were lined with cabanas, and they were each packed. There had to be 10s of thousands of people there. Truly an amazing thing to witness. At even at 1:00 am, children were out! Sarah and I wandered through for a while, and then took a little while to wind our way back out. I am so glad we stayed.
Today we are going to do some more sight seeing before we head back to Marbella.
