Sevilla-Day 2
We spent Thursday checking out Sevilla. It was another sunny, beautiful day, and we started off walking to visit Cabildo Cathedral de Sevilla... the Giralda. It's the 4th largest cathedral in the world, and the largest in area. But first, we had to actually get there. We navigated our way through the streets, and the many shopping opportunities that were along the way.
The, all of a sudden, boom, there it was! The streets are so narrow, and the buildings so tall, you really can't see it until you are almost right there!
We wandered around the area looking for the entrance, and were accosted by the gypsies trying to give us sprigs of rosemary. I have no idea what they were saying, but I finally just handed it back to the woman, and said no. Joy and I must look like suckers, cause we got "hit on" by these people constantly. Thank goodness Lisa was there to drag us away.
Once inside, you are amazed with the size of the place. It's a bit overwhelming. There are side altars all over, and so much to see it's hard to take it all in.
We were looking around and trying to take it all in, and we realized at one point we were looking at the final resting place of Christopher Columbus!
We stayed in the cathedral for maybe an hour. There was so much to see!
Next, we headed to Real Alcazar of Sevilla. This is the oldest and most historic palace complex in Sevilla. For me, the gardens were most impressive.
After we got our fill of the castle, we headed over the bridge to visit the ceramic district. We stopped at a great little bar/cafe right on the edge of the bridge. We ate on the top floor, which gave us some great views of the area.
After lunch we headed to the ceramics area...only to find our timing was bad. Siesta time in Spain. We did find a couple of places open, but decided we needed to head back, so we could get on the road back to Marbella before too late.
The ride home was quiet. We were all tired, but we had a great time in Sevilla!
